Realms of Passing part 5 Joan walked the perimeter of the South-West corridor. She drifted slowly along the wall, reading the nameplate of each hourglass. They seemed in no particular order. Every hourglass was brass, with sparkling silver sand inside them. It was beautiful, mesmerising, and also a little bit sad. Joan had never really understood how insignificant people were until she saw their lives draining away in egg-timers. She read a nameplate. Eric Groves. Joan looked at the sand.
